Things you should know more about decommissioning
Question

How many years will it take for "decommissioning" to be completed?

  • Decommissioning work

Answer

Decommissioning a reactor that has suffered an accident is an unprecedented challenge that may lead to unforeseen and difficult tasks. TEPCO is engaged in decommissioning in accordance with the government’s Mid and Long-Term Roadmap and we shall steadily and safely move forward with decommissioning according to plan so as to promote recovery in Fukushima by balancing recovery with decommissioning. In March 2020, we created the Mid and Long-Term Decommissioning Action Plan to stipulate the major decommissioning work processes that will be implemented over the next 10 years. We will engage in decommissioning according to plan while reflecting the new knowledge gained in the course of decommissioning in this Mid and Long-Term Decommissioning Action Plan as we aim to complete decommissioning within 30 to 40 years from now.
