Policy on Business Ethics Compliance

The TEPCO Group sets forth its corporate ethics compliance policies in the “TEPCO Group Code of Conduct for Compliance with Corporate Ethics.” This Code defines the standards that executives and employees must adhere to, including compliance with laws governing bribery, taxation, and other ethical requirements.

Internal Initiatives

The TEPCO Group has established a Corporate Ethics Hotline (an internal whistleblowing channel) to receive reports and inquiries concerning violations of laws or corporate ethics from employees, group companies, business partners, contractors, and other stakeholders engaged in our operations. The hotline ensures whistleblower protection by prohibiting any retaliatory measures and by responding in compliance with the Whistleblower Protection Act.

All reports and inquiries are submitted to the TEPCO Group Corporate Ethics Committee for review, and when necessary, the details and preventive measures are disclosed publicly. Furthermore, we have established a framework to coordinate with the Risk Management Committee and to report the Corporate Ethics Committee’s deliberations and findings to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.

Furthermore, to firmly embed corporate ethics within our organizational culture, we are committed to building a “culture that discourages misconduct,” “systems that prevent unethical behavior,” and “mechanisms that enable employees to speak up.”

Examples of Our Initiatives

  • Compliance training for employees to strengthen adherence to corporate ethics
  • Activities to enhance communication and foster psychological safety, aimed at preventing misconduct
  • Development and regular review of internal regulations and manuals
  • Integration of corporate ethics compliance into employee performance evaluations
  • Employee surveys to gauge awareness and engagement with corporate ethics
    • The survey results help us evaluate how deeply corporate ethics are embedded within the organization and guide the formulation of future policies and plans. These findings are also reported to the Board of Directors.

Our employment regulations specify disciplinary measures for compliance violations, including corruption and bribery, as well as breaches of information security involving personal data.
