Nippon Nuclear Fuel Development Co., Ltd.

Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as, “TEPCO HD”) and Nippon Nuclear Fuel Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as, “NFD”) have signed a memorandum on cooperation with analyzing fuel debris at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

In accordance with this memorandum, TEPCO HD will receive the cooperation of NFD to analyze fuel debris and highly radioactive contaminated objects in anticipation of the upcoming full-scale retrieval of fuel debris, which will be conducted as part of the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

TEPCO HD endeavors to overcome technical issues pertaining to decommissioning by enhancing relationships with relevant agencies and entities in order to complete responsibility for the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and contaminated water countermeasures. This memorandum will further strengthen the framework for promoting decommissioning with the collective strength of the entire country, thereby enabling us to move safely and steadily forward with mid/long-term efforts aimed at the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

For many years, NFD has engaged in the research and development of nuclear fuel for power stations, as well as research on the attributes of spent nuclear fuel and metal materials, etc., and the transport of radioactive substances. Currently, NFD is mainly engaged in promoting the safe decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station while improving its organizational capabilities and technical prowess it has cultivated to date, and signing this memorandum will enable the NDF to contribute more than ever to solving issues faced by TEPCO HD.

This memorandum offers a new opportunity for TEPCO HD and NFD to strengthen our partnership and move safely and steadily forward with the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
