Japan’s first Power-to-Gas Company Established

Tokyo, Japan, February 28, 2022 – The Yamanashi Prefectural Government, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc., and Toray Industries, Inc., today announced the establishment of Yamanashi Hydrogen Company, Inc., Japan’s first power-to-gas (P2G) company.

Yamanashi Hydrogen Company will produce, supply, sell, and provide services for hydrogen derived from renewable power sources. It will also develop and demonstrate technologies relating to hydrogen production, storage and transportation and engage in businesses to drive hydrogen energy uptake. Full-fledged operations are slated to start in April 2022.

The three partners will draw on the new entity to keep jointly developing technologies to accelerate P2G systems applications in Japan and abroad that contribute to a shift away from fossil fuels and help materialize carbon neutrality.
