Fire Occurred at Unit 1 of Kashima Thermal Power Station

A fire was found near the upper part of the air preheater* bearing at Unit 1 of Kashima Thermal Power Station (Station Chief: Hirohisa Ishii, Address: 9 Touwada, Kamisu City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Rated output: 600MW, Fuel: oil, Operational commencement: March 1971) after an alarm indicating "high temperature of air preheater bearing" went off at 3:03 AM today. The fire was put out by a fire extinguisher and was reported to the fire department. Upon site investigation by the fire department, fire extinguishment was confirmed at 3:51 AM. After completing inspection from August 16 to 21, the unit was in preparation for operational commencement.

No injuries have been reported due to the fire, and the cause of the fire is currently being investigated. The estimated recovery of Unit 1 is to be determined.

Today's power supply capacity is 55,060MW, with which reserve capacity of 9% can be secured.

* Air preheater: Equipment used to improve thermal efficiency by heating the combustion air utilizing the residual heat of exhaust gas
