The Tokyo Electric Power Company has made a decision to shut down Unit 4 of 
Kashima Thermal Power Station due to potential risks of combustion gas 
leakage expansion and pending repair work (Manager: Masakuni ARAKI, 
Address: Higashi-Wada 9, Kamisu-shi, Ibaraki, Rated output: 600MW). This 
will be effective from 10pm on July 27, 2011.

As we discovered trace amounts of combustion gas leaking from the boiler 
unit during an equipment inspection conducted on July 9, we continued 
operations under enhanced monitoring conditions to verify operational 
safety. Nevertheless, after ascertaining the distinct possibility of a leak 
expansion, we have decided to undergo repairs to secure future power 
supplies.

We will restart the unit on August 6, 2011.
