Press Release (May 20,2009)
Performing a Series of Functional Tests for the Entire Plant of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Unit No.7 after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake (Starting generation)
The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Unit No.7 (ABWR: 1,356MW) had been shut down
since the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake occurred on July 16, 2007. On May 8, 2009, we started
a series of functional tests for the entire plant, and are performing the pre-planned tests.

Activating a main turbine generator and connecting the main generator to the transmission network,
we started generation by temporary main generator synchronization. Then we have performed various
pre-planned tests by 8:50a.m. of May 20, 2009, and confirmed these results to be satisfactory.

Based on these results of the tests, once we isolated the main generator from the transmission
network and verified the function of protective devices of the main turbine generator. Subsequently,
we connected the main generator to the transmission network again, we re-started the generation
at 11:10a.m. of May 20.

Currently, we are keeping the generating power at approx. 20% of the rated output, and will perform
the pre-planned tests carefully.

We will disclose test evaluation results accordingly.
