Press Release (Nov 20,2007)
Status of the unit 4 turbine internal inspections at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station
As for the unit 4, we have been conducting internal inspections of
the low-pressure turbine (A) by opening its cover since Nov.8th.

While conducting the inspections rotor blades and stator blades
(the ninth and tenth), we found wear (maximum about 4mm) at the
edges of the rotor blades (shrouds of the ninth and tenth) at
around 4:40 pm on Nov.19th. We suppose that this wear was caused
by contact of the rotor blades and the stator blades. We also
found another wear (maximum about 2mm), which was also supposed
to be made by contact, at the base of the ninth rotor blade and
a stator blade.

We will consider exchanging the edges of the rotor blades and
repairing their bases. In addition, we will continue to inspect
the rest of both blades (from the 11th to the 17th) of the
low-pressure turbine and those of the high-pressure turbine.
Status and details of the inspections will be announced.
