Nonconformances Found in the Inspection and Restoration Works Performed after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake (September 6th)
We are announcing the status of major inspections and restoration works (from 
September 2nd to 29th, 2007) and non-conformance at TEPCO's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa 
Nuclear Power Station after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake.

1. Inspection/Restoration Status
 ○Inspection and restoration completed between August 24th to September 6th, 2007
  • Unit No.1 Main transformers inspection: Visual inspection completed on August 
    29th.
  • Unit No.2 Turbine building ceiling crane inspection: Inspection completed on 
    August 24th.
  • Inspection preparation & restoration for the bushing of Minami-Niigata 
    transmission line (No.2): Replacement to spare parts completed on August 31st.
  • Solid Waste Storage Facility Temporary Restoration: Completed on August 31st 
    (Returning tipped-over drums to their original position).
  • Verification operation of stand-by equipments of the residual heat removal 
    system: Completed on August 31st.
  • Survey for transformer oil leakage area: Completed on September 3rd.
  • Unit No.1 House transformers (1A) Inner inspection: Completed on September 
    4th.
  • Unit No.3 House transformers (3A) Visual inspection: Completed on September 
    4th.
  • Unit No.7 Reactor building ceiling crane inspection: To be completed on 
    September 6th.
  • Repair/restoration of low-voltage start-up transformer 6SB: To be completed 
    on September 6th.

 ○Inspection to be commenced between September 7th to 13th, 2007.
  • Unit No.1 - 5 Main exhaust ducts inspection preparation
  • Unit No.7 Refueling floor service tools inspection (working dolly, stud 
    tensioners, etc.)
  • Unit No.6 House transformer oil extraction and internal inspection 
    preparation.
  • Verification operation of the standby gas treatment system.
  • Preparation for dismantling the Arahama-side arrestor steel tower.

3. Nonconformances Found in the Inspection and Restoration Works Performed after
   the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake

   Based on the "Public Announcement Regarding Nonconformance Found in the 
   Inspection and Restoration Works Performed after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki 
   Earthquake", the Tokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated (TEPCO) provides 
   this announcement containing incidents information reported from August 23rd to 
   September 5th, 2007 and the occurrence status of nonconformances (that have 
   been deliberated) reported from August 16th to 29th, 2007.

* The total number of injured persons at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa site after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake (since Aug 10th, 2007) is listed on "○ Other Findings" mentioned below. ○Information on Nonconformances (those related to: the Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake; Grades As, A, B, C, and D; and non-graded)
○Other Findings • From the survey and analyses of the soil at the crack of the units 4, 5, 7 transformer oil protection bank, insulating oil was found to have infiltrated into the soil. Incident report regarding leakage of insulating oil of electrical equipments has been submitted on September 6th in accordance to the relevant law. Detailed survey of the soil and necessary actions will be taken accordingly. • Total number of injured persons at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa site since Aug 10th, 2007: 1 (no radiation exposure)
